Vision Boards for children are an effective and creative method of helping them identify and clarify goals which they would like to achieve as they grow and develop.

A Vision Board is a recognised coaching to tool to support visualisation techniques in focusing on goals an individual would like to achieve.

Mental visualisation activates a part of your brain called the Reticular Activating System (RAS). This part of your brain filters all the information you are bombarded with on a daily basis, and allows those pieces of information through which are relevant to you and what you are focusing on.

When your RAS has a clear idea of what you want and what you are working towards with strong feelings, it will check every experience and event against that ‘blueprint’ and correct your behaviour and steer you towards your goals.

Offering childred aged 12-18 the opportunity to create their own Vision Board has:

• Helped them think about exactly what they would like to be going on in their future, not just with career aspirations but in areas such as relationships, wealth, family and friends, life experiences, health and wellbeing in order to produce an inspiring and balanced picture.

• The subtle, creative exercise bypasses the blocks often experienced when teenagers are asked “what do you want to do when you grow up?” By considering their lives as a whole and how they would like it to be, helps them focus on goals which motivate them throughout their schooling.

• By giving children a Vision Board to focus on, on a daily basis, increases their motivation and inspiration throughout the challenges they face growing up.

• Allowing children the opportunity to decide and consider what THEY would like provides great insight for parents and teachers and can be followed up as a discussion exercise to develop their ideas.
