Great Self Development Books

I read a great variety of book on self development, personal change and coaching. Below are ones I would highly recommend.

DEVELOPING AN ACTION PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE:

The 4 Hour Work Week - Tim Ferriss
Tim amusingly supplies you with tips and information to enable you to implement strategies to make your life more time rich. This book is not particularly about making a massive income, rather about making your earnings work for you so that you can enjoy an ‘experience rich’ life. He states that being financially rich and having the ability to live like a millionaire are fundamentally two very different things. Your ‘freedom multiplier’ depends on how many “w’s” you control – ie what you do, when you do it, where you do it and with whom you do it. One of the core principles of the book is the idea of taking ‘mini retirements’ so that we can enjoy our lives while we are fit and healthy, and Tim supplies an enormous array of case studies, websites, resources to back up the strategies he explains.

Take Time For Your Life – Cheryl Richardson
Making a positive commitment to “Take Time For Your Life” is possibly the most important gift you can give yourself. This book contains a wealth of advice, action plans and resources to enable you to discard old habits that no longer serve you and develop new empowering ones. Laid out in a simple step-by-step guide, it allows you to concentrate on one area at a time.

Now What? 90 Days to a New Life Direction – Laura Berman Fortgang
This book gives you a clear 90-day programme to empower you to make those changes in your life which you feel necessary to achieve your goals. Set out in weekly chapters, each self development stage builds on the previous one to ensure lasting, positive change.

Notes from a Friend – Anthony Robbins
Anthony Robbins is probably the most published modern-day authority of achieving peak personal performance. He has produced numerous excellent books and dvds. This small book can be read in a day and gives you 11 lessons on steps you can take to get back in control of your life and make it work for you. Pure genius.

GAINING CONFIDENCE AND EXTENDING YOUR COMFORT ZONE:

Who Moved My Cheese? – Dr Spencer Johnson
This fantastic book is an excellent, light-hearted read dealing with deep issues around coping with changes in your business or personal life. It looks at how to find what you are looking for, and the personal limitations that may stop you responding to changes in an empowering way.

Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway – Susan Jeffers
This international bestseller provides you with insights and tools to continually extend your comfort zone and overcome fears you may have, which are limiting your enjoyment of life, and restricting you making the most of opportunities as they arise.

Taming Your Gremlin – Rick Carson
Although presented in a simple format, this book helps you to recognise your gremlins, acknowledge them, and live with them - without allowing them to limit your life or restrict your progress to achieving your goals.

LAW OF ATTRACTION:

The Secret – Rhonda Byrne
The revelations of The Secret have swept the globe. This book was my first introduction to the Law of Attraction. I have personally experienced small confirmations that this works and regularly dip into this book for further inspiration.

COACHING FOR COACHES AND MANAGERS

These books are for anyone who wishes to get the best out of others. Whether you are a teacher, sports coach, manager, the principles for empowering others to maximise their effectiveness are the same.
